Captain's Day 2021
"DANCING THROUGH THE AGES"
A great afternoon was enjoyed by all members present on a beautiful sunny Saturday 28 August at our annual Captain's Day, which is the one occasion each year when we let our hair down. This year the theme chosen by our Captain, Gerry O'Keefe, was "Dancing Through the Ages", with everyone invited to dress for the occasion.
The afternoon began with a Spider Competition for a bottle of Champagne, which was won by Mick Tillett, followed by a light-hearted fours bowling competition organised by Competitions Secretary, Gerry Tredgett. The winners of the bowling competition were Pauline Cooper, Will Clarke, Nigel Taylor & Vic Turner.
Dress was optional, but many members chose to participate, as can be seen from the photos. Jane & Gerry O'Keefe presented prizes for the most imaginative costumes - Geoff Gardiner (Morris Dancer - costume hand-crafted by Margaret) and the "Pink Ladies", Veronica and Rebecca Connolly. The day was a resounding success and our thanks go to Gerry & Jane O'Keefe for organising the event and providing prizes, food and drink. Thanks also to Gerry Tredgett for running the bowling competition on the day. Finally, thank you to our members for their enthusiastic participation in the event and for the provision of food for the delicious buffet and, not least, for helping set up and clear away.
And afterwards, we were treated to a display of passing hot air balloons from the Balloon Fiesta on the Knavesmire.
