Club Competitions

Club Competitions are open to all fully paid-up members.  The closing date for entries in the 2024 Competitions was Tuesday 21 May and Competition Finals were played on the weekend of Saturday 31 August/Sunday 1 September.  The random computer generated draw has been made and there is a separate page for each competition.

Dress code for club competition matches is grey and white (or the new coloured club shirts).

The following competitions are available for entry:

Men's Singles Competition

A men's singles competition played with four bowls each. The winner is the first to 21 shots, with a maximum of 18 ends.  The winner in 2024 after a close-run match was Steve Connolly and the runner-up was Phil Batt.

Ladies Singles Competition

A ladies singles competition played with four bowls each. The winner is the first to 21 shots, with a maximum of 18 ends.  This did not run in 2024 as there were insufficient entries.

Open Singles Competition

A singles competition, open to ladies and gentlemen, played with four bowls each. The winner is the first to 21 shots, with a maximum of 18 ends. This did not run in 2024 as there were insufficient lady entrants.

Men's Pairs Competition - Trophy sponsored by Yorkshire Plumbing Ltd

A men's pairs competition played with four bowls each over 18 ends.  Pairs are selected on a random basis.  A new Men's Pairs Winners Trophy has been sponsored by Jamie Bunyan of Yorkshire Plumbing Ltd.  The winners in 2024 were David Thackwray & Steve Connolly and the runners-up were Steve Bradley & Tony Hick.

Ladies Pairs Competition

A ladies pairs competition played with four bowls each over 18 ends. Pairs are selected on a random basis.  This did not run in 2024 as there were insufficient entries.

Mixed Pairs Competition

A mixed pairs competition played with four bowls each over 18 ends.  Pairs are selected on a random basis, whilst ensuring that each pair includes one male and one female member.  The winners in 2024 were Pauline Cooper & Phil Batt and the runners-up were Jan Elliot & Will Clarke.

Couples Competition (formerly Married Couples Competition)

A pairs competition for couples played with four bowls each over 18 ends.  The winners in 2024 were Margaret & Mike Sackville and the runners-up were Julie & Nigel Taylor.

Peter Meek Triples Competition

A mixed triples competition played with three bowls each over 18 ends.  Teams are drawn at random, but must include at least one lady and one gentleman.  The closing date for entries into this competition was Tuesday 11 June and Round 1 was played on Saturday 15 June 2024.  Owing to illness the final was not played in 2024 but the deemed winners were Pauline Cooper, Gerry O'Keefe and Simon Melton whilst the runners-up were Kath Lyall, John Cooper and Stewart Harrison.

The Competition Secretary reserves the right not to run any competition if there are insufficient entries to make it worthwhile.

Generally, singles competitions will not be run unless there are at least 8 entrants.  Additionally, in the case of the Open Singles Competition, there must be at least three male and three female entries.  Pairs and triples competitions will not generally run unless there are at least five teams participating.

Club Night Trophies

The Club Night trophies are awarded to members achieving the highest number of winning points in their first 15 attendances at Club Night during the season.  The winner of the Club Night Trophy in 2023 was John Cooper and the leading lady was Liz Tillett.

Two-Wood Competitions:

These competitions are run alongside a social event with buffet afternoon tea.

Two-Wood Open Competition

This is a Club knock-out competition, open to ladies and gentlemen.  First round losers are entered into a Consolation Competition. The limited-end matches are all played during the course of a single afternoon. The matches are followed by a traditional strawberry tea.  In 2024 the Competition was held on Saturday 6 July. The winner was Gerry O'Keefe and the runner-up Paul Milliner.  The winner of the Consolation Competition was Mick Tillett and the runner-up Ray Lyall.

Two-Wood Pairs Competition

This is a Club competition, open to ladies and gentlemen, in which the pairings are drawn on a completely random basis.  There is a Group Stage of limited-end matches, from which winners go through to the semi-finals or final depending on numbers entering.  All matches are played during the course of a single afternoon, followed by a buffet afternoon tea.  In 2024 the Competition was held on Saturday 3 August. The winners were Will Clarke & Gerry Tredgett and the runners-up Les Coop & John Cooper.
