Captain's Day - A Colourful Affair
Bishopthorpe Bowling Club
A great afternoon was enjoyed by all members present on Sunday 12 August at our annual Captain's Day, which is the one occasion each year when we really let our hair down. This year the theme was "A Colourful Affair", with everyone invited to dress as colourfully as possible - even if it clashed!
The lighthearted bowling competitions were organised by our Captain, David Thackwray, assisted by Competitions Secretary, Gerry Tredgett, and began with a Spider Competition, won by Sally Clarke, followed by a Triples Competition, won by Margaret Gardiner, Will Clarke and Stewart Darley. The runners-up were Kate Radley, Geoff Gardiner and Martin Prime. Throughout the afternoon there was a Bowling Target Game, the runaway winner being Ian Hodgson, with David Maughan Brown the runner-up.
It was a real pleasure to see so many of our newer members featuring amongst the competition winners.
Colourful Dress was optional, but most members chose to participate, as can be seen from the riotous colours in the photo. The Most Colourful Member was judged to be Lyn Hodgson with her shock of pink hair! The day was a resounding success and our thanks go to David Thackwray for organising the event and providing the prizes. Thanks also to our members for their enthusiastic participation and for the provision of food for the buffet. More photos on our website gallery.
